| The Farber Collection of contemporary Cuban art was launched in 2001 with a trip to Havana by collectors Howard and Patricia Farber. Previously, the Farbers had created major collections of American modernist art (1910-1935) and contemporary Chinese art. Struck by the parallels between recent Chinese and Cuban art, they began assembling an ambitious and wide-ranging collection of contemporary Cuban art. With more than 70 works by Cuban-born artists living in Cuba, the United States, Latin America, and Europe, the Farber Collection encompasses the full scope of Cuban contemporary art history from the 1980s to the present. The Collection features rarely exhibited works, some never before exhibited outside Cuba.
Cuba Avant-Garde presents works from the Farber Collection featured in the book and exhibition of the same name (touring through 2010). As the collection continues to grow, new additions are spotlighted in Recent Acquisitions.
